Q.  What does a Chiropractor do?

A.  The Doctor of Chiropractic analyzes your body using his/her hands and other analysis tools, and then corrects your pinched nerves using various spinal adjustment techniques.

Q.  How do we get pinched nerves?

A.  From stress.  It may occur in infancy from a difficult childbirth or from childhood falls.  Later in life, physical and emotional stress can gradually damage your spine or violent injuries from automobile accidents or sports can suddenly knock you “out of whack”.

Q.  Who is affected by pinched nerves?

A.  Nearly everyone eventually gets a pinched nerve. It is a “hidden epidemic”
and it is for that reason that we all need to have our spines checked for this condition by a Doctor of Chiropractic every once in a while, just as we get our
eyes, teeth and blood pressure checked!

Q. Is Chiropractic safe for children and infants?

Sometimes your newborn’s spine is harmed at birth.  How can that occur?  According to Abraham Towbin, MD: “The birth process is potentially a traumatic, crippling event … mechanical stress imposed by obstetrical manipulation – even
the application of standard orthodox procedures may prove intolerable to the fetus … most signs of neonatal injury observed in the delivery room are neurological.”

Therefore, an unhealthy spine can affect your child’s health for his/her entire life.  Your Doctor of Chiropractic is specially trained to check your child’s spine for areas of distortion causing nerve damage.

Your children deserve to be treated naturally, not with dangerous chemical drugs and surgeries. Give your child the best possible chance to have a healthy life.  You have your baby’s eyes, heart and hearing checked – bring your children in for a chiropractic spinal exam.  A simple checkup now might make a BIG difference for your children for the rest of their lives.

Q. What are some conditions commonly treated by Chiropractic?

A.  All kinds of conditions are treated with chiropractic care, such as back and neck pain, headaches, disc problems, arthritis, ear infections, stress, vision problems, allergies, bedwetting, colic, high blood pressure – the list is long!  And yet, please remember, the goal of chiropractic treatment is not treatment of disease but rather the enhancement of health through the reduction of pinched nerves and proper biomechanical movement.

Q. Assuming I’m going to take chiropractic treatments, how are they performed?

A.  Chiropractors work with your bones, nerves and spinal cord respectively.  Chiropractors spend years of highly specialized training in order to locate where misplaced spinal vertebrae are pinching the nerves which travel down your spine and out to your muscles, organs and glands of the body.  After locating the vertebrae that is pinching your nerves, the Chiropractor uses specialized techniques to reposition your misplaced vertebrae and thus release pressure from your nerves.  That is called a spinal adjustment.

Q.  Can I receive chiropractic treatments if I’m under medical care?

A.  Absolutely.  Having your pinched nerve corrected is important no matter what other type of care you’re receiving. You can have your spinal column checked for pinched nerves by a Doctor of Chiropractic and still visit a Doctor of Homeopathy, Naturopathy, Osteopathy or Medicine.  However, please note that a Doctor of Chiropractic is the only health care provider who is trained and licensed to perform a spinal adjustment.

Q.  When was the first chiropractic patient treated?

A.  Modern Chiropractic began in 1895 when Dr. D.D. Palmer performed the first chiropractic “spinal adjustment” on his deaf janitor, Harvey Lillard.  Lillard’s hearing returned and Palmer thought he had discovered a cure for deafness.  But as patients with digestive troubles, sciatica, menstrual trouble, migraine headaches, epilepsy, back pain and many other conditions responded to spinal care, Palmer realized that he had discovered something more far-reaching indeed.
