Dr. Tanner has had great success with a variety of common conditions, including:
It should come as no surprise that neck and back pain problems are common. An astounding 85% of the population will suffer from back pain at some point in their lives. The pain may develop suddenly from a trauma such as a whiplash or fall, or slowly as a result of repetitive stress such as poor posture. A 2005 study by Consumer Reports showed Chiropractic care to be the most efficient and cost effective choice for back pain, over all other possible treatments. Dr. Tanner uses chiropractic care to provide relief from neck and back pain, all while countering the effects of stress and unnatural wear and tear by relieving your spine of pinched nerves and restoring proper movement. “As a dentist, I had been suffering with severe low back pain for over 4 years. With Dr. Tanner’s care … I am virtually pain free and have a very good range of motion. I was very wary of trying Chiropractic to be honest, but it has helped immensely.” Terry O., D.D.S. “Due to a football injury to my neck, I could not move my head comfortably and had frequent headaches for many years. After 3 months, I had full range of motion in my neck and no more headaches.” Dean P.
If you have a headache, you’re not alone. Nine out of ten Americans suffer from headaches. Some are occasional, some frequent, some are dull and throbbing, and some cause a debilitating pain and nausea. What do you do when you suffer from a pounding headache? Do you grit your teeth and carry on? Lie down? Pop a pill and hope the pain goes away? There is a better alternative. Over 90% of all headaches have some or all of their cause originating from the neck. New research shows that spinal adjustments, the primary form of care provided by Dr. Tanner, are an effective treatment option for your headaches. A report released in 2001 by researchers at Duke University Evidence-Based Practice Center in Durham, NC, found that a spinal adjustment resulted in almost immediate improvement for those headaches that originated in the neck, and had significantly fewer side effects and longer-lasting relief of tension-type headaches than commonly prescribed medication. Also, a 1995 study in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics found that spinal adjustments are an effective treatment for headaches and that those who utilized chiropractic treatment after four weeks experienced a sustained therapeutic benefit in contrast with those patients who received commonly prescribed medication. “I used to spend at least one day in the Emergency room about every two months to try to get headaches under control. That was usually after several doses of very expensive migraine medications that did not help in time to control the headache and nausea. I have not had a full migraine approximately seven months now that my neck is properly aligned. You have helped me save a lot of money in medicine and Emergency room visits. It has also made a huge impact on my work and personal life, as I do not worry about having to stop my life for a few days every time I get a migraine. As a registered nurse, medicine was always the first consideration. Now I realize there are better ways of treating headaches.” Betsy C., R.N., B.S.N. “Dr. Tanner, I just wanted to take a moment and thank you for changing my life. I spent 21 years in pain and never went a day without pain meds. I’m happy to say I haven’t needed Advil in a while and my headaches are but gone!” Danielle W.
TMJ pain disorder affects over 10 million people in the US. “TMJ” stands for the Temporo Mandibular Joint. The TMJ connects the lower jaw to your head, allowing for movement in all directions while chewing, talking, etc… Very simply, the jaw is a hinge joint that hangs from your head. Therefore, if your head and neck aren’t properly aligned, the jaw will not move evenly. This irregular movement will cause abnormal wear and tear on the TMJ. Dr. Tanner focuses his care on properly aligning your head and neck with specific chiropractic adjustments, therefore your jaw will hang and move in a neutral stress free plane. Furthermore, Dr. Tanner uses physiological therapeutic techniques such as massage and electrical acupuncture, which reduces your pain and provides long lasting relief. “For at least 10 years, achy jaws, headaches, neck aches and upper back pain were a constant in my life. Along with my doctors, I wrote these aches and pains off to tension, stress, allergies etc. but never connected these issues with TMJ disorder. $15,000 (not covered by insurance) later, a friend suggested I see Dr. Tanner, as she was finding relief from the TMJ she was experiencing. I felt relief as early as the first month of treatment. I rarely experience headaches, my jaws no longer ache, and my upper back pain is virtually gone. I have not felt this good in years! Dr. Tanner’s treatment has significantly improved my quality of life.” Courtney R.
Many people suffer from tightness across the back of their shoulders and neck, often self diagnosing that this is where they “carry stress”. However, this tightness is actually due to repetitive stress from poor ergonomics while doing things like sitting at the computer, reading, driving, or sleeping. This repetitive stress causes nerve pinching, which makes your body defend itself by tightening the muscles in order to prevent any further damage. Dr. Tanner’s approach is to relieve your nerve pinching with specific spinal adjustments, along with physiological therapeutic techniques such as massage and electrical acupuncture in order to reduce your pain and provide long lasting results. “For 5 to 6 years I suffered from headaches and muscle tension in my neck and shoulders. I am sleeping better, have less tension and soreness in my neck/shoulder area, and headaches are virtually gone. I feel like a new person!” DeAnne R.
Pain / Numbness in Arm or Legs (Sciatica) Your nervous system consists of your brain, spinal cord and nerves. It controls and regulates everything in your body, similar to a computer controlling the printer or screen. Individual nerves exit your spine and go out to your arms and legs. Unfortunately, this same spine that protects the nervous system can cause severe problems. When your spine misaligns from normal position, your nerves can become pinched, causing pain, tingling and sometimes numbness in your arms or legs. These symptoms in the legs have a specific diagnosis called “sciatica”. The sciatic nerve is the largest and longest nerve in your body. Dr. Tanner uses specific chiropractic adjustments to reposition your spine in order to relieve nerve pinching, decrease pain and restore normal joint function. Furthermore, Dr. Tanner uses physiological therapeutic techniques such as massage and electrical acupuncture to reduce swelling and relieve your pain. “I had been suffering with pain in my hip radiating down my leg to just below my knee for over a year. The pain has decreased considerably and I’m able to sleep much better. After the first few visits, I was able to walk up steps alternating weight on both feet.” Ruth B.
“Extremities” consist of your arms, legs and their respective joints. They allow us free and precise movements, when aligned properly. However, with this finite movement comes plenty of instability and overuse injuries. Most extremity problems are due to repetitive stress injuries, such as computer work, manual labor or poor ergonomics. Yet, blunt trauma, such as sports injuries can cause severe acute pain. Dr. Tanner uses specific chiropractic adjustments to reposition your joint, which allows normal function. Physiological therapeutic techniques such as massage and electrical acupuncture are utilized to reduce your pain and swelling. Dr. Tanner played and served as team physician for both University of Georgia and Atlanta Old White Rugby Football Clubs. This allowed him to gain years of experience adjusting and treating extremity problems such as shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles. “Before Tanner Chiropractic, I was suffering from extreme neck, shoulder and upper back pain from poor posture and weight lifting. With Dr. Tanner’s care, I have no more pain or tight muscles. I am also more educated regarding posture and ergonomics.” Joe P.
It is rare that your life hasn’t been punctuated by a injury. And although accidents may be unavoidable, much of the physical damage and suffering resulting from accidental injuries may, in many cases, be avoided with chiropractic care. Anyone who has been in an accident should make sure that the trauma has not damaged their spinal column. Most accidents are minor. In those cases chiropractic care should be sought out as quickly as possible. Too often severe health problems first began as a little fall, whiplash or bump that may have caused you some pain initially but was later forgotten. Severe accidents, such as car accidents or a major sports injury can cause you serious trauma such as whiplash. This is an immediate concern for chiropractic care. Dr. Tanner will provide evaluation, diagnostic testing and treatment in order to get you back to pre-accident status. Rehabilitative physiological therapeutic techniques, such as massage and electrical acupuncture will be used in order to relieve your acute pain as well as provide long lasting results. “Thanks for getting me back on my feet in such a short time. I could not have done the Iron Man without your treatment.” JD C.
